Puppies can be a lot of work. First steps is choosing the right pet for you!
Depending on how you get your new pet, whether you buy one from a reliable dog breeder, or you rescue your pet, or maybe get it from the pound, either way caring fo your pet takes attention and time.
Puppy proof your home as soon as you bring him home. Try using a crate initially and carefully introduce him to your home environment, your family and friends.
Get a baby gate to block off areas you don’t want your pet to roam. It might be your kitchen, bedroom or family areas, but don’t yell at him, take the necessary precautions to prohibit him from going into areas that are not allowed.
Proper puppy-proofing not only keeps your puppy safe, it also gives you peace of mind.
Ok so now it is time to name your pet. Hummmm what should I call him. Well this is the fun part, so take your time and try out different names to see which fit his personality, Have fun with it.
Buy him a leash and collar. I would recommend adding a name tag to his collar after you have chosen his name. Also add the phone and home address so if lost others know where he belongs.
Take him to a vet, get his vaccinations, check out his health and discuss the best dog food for his breed, activity level, and such. Vets are a good resource for any questions you might have about your new pet.
