What Do You Need?
Here is a good list of items that will help keep your new pet happy and healthy:
- High-quality chew toys
- Pet food
- Water bowl
- Collar, leash, and ID tags
- Parasite control
- A crate for home
- Stain Remover
- Toothbrush, hair comb, shampoo, nail clippers
After you have finished setting up your home using these items it is now time to learn these things about your pet:
- Be Proactive
Puppies and babies are a lot alike they need constant care and attention. Try using baby gates to keep them safe and out of areas you don’t want them to roam in.
- He loves treats…who doesn’t
Puppies like to chew so teach him what is ok to chew and what isn’t. Also as you train your pet, treats are a great tool to use to reinforce good behaviors.
- Get a leash
Buy a leash soon and be sure to add a tag with your home address, contact information and oh ya, his name. All key as a start. Then start walking him so he gets used to his new collar and how to walk using a leash.
- Play with him
Puppies love to play, especially during their first year. Buy good play toys that are non-poisonous and he likes, replace old ones so they keep him interested.
- Find a good Vet
Most vets offices in your local area can be researched on the internet. Also ask around, your friends with pets, maybe your neighbor who has dogs and ask who they take their pets to. Ask about how well the vet and his staff treat their pets, this will help you with your choices.
